2015 Chattanooga 2.4 Mile Open Water Swim

Swim the course that the world’s toughest triathletes will swim in Chattanooga this fall.

The Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Open Water Swimmers (C.O.W.S.) will host and support this practice swim, which will start and finish at Ross’ Landing in downtown Chattanooga.

Swimmers will board the Southern Belle Riverboat downtown to be shuttled 2.4 miles up river to the swim practice start. The practice swim will be fully supported.

Online registration closes at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 14.
There will be no day of the event registration.
Registration is open to adults ages 18 and older.
Open water swimming is NOT for beginners. ALL entered participants should have swum at least one mile at one time to enter. 

Event Schedule
6:45 a.m………….Check in at Southern Belle Riverboat on Riverfront Parkway
7:30 a.m………….Swimmers board Southern Belle for trip 2.4 miles upstream
8:00 a.m…………Swimmers enter water (Time Trial start)
10:00 a.m……….Last swimmer exits water
11:00 a.m………..Lunch for pilots and volunteers on 3rd Deck Burger Bar

Other Event Details
-This is NOT A TIMED, COMPETITIVE EVENT. It is a practice swim only.
-During check in on swim day, all participants will receive a swim cap, be body marked and   receive a clear plastic bag for their personal belongings.
-The swim course will be river left. Buoys will be placed to help with sight lines.
-Swimmers will be accompanied by kayaks and standup paddleboard pilots.
-In addition to pilots, there will also be power boats monitoring the course and river traffic.
-All personal belongings left in the clear plastic bag will be transported back down river and will be waiting at the swim exit.

Weather Contingency
In case of severe weather that can potentially endanger human life, the practice start will be delayed for up to an hour. If the weather has not cleared after an hour, the practice swim will be cancelled. The swim will be held in rain, not thunder and lightning.

Refund Policy
-If the swim is cancelled due to severe weather, dangerous river conditions or other acts  beyond the organizers’ control, a full refund will be issued, minus a $10 handling fee.
-No refunds will be given for participant cancellations within 72 hours of the event.
-Cancellations received before the 72 hour deadline will be refunded minus a $10 handling  fee.

Proceeds from this event will go toward the Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga’s support of programs, activities and events that connect people to Chattanooga’s outdoors.
